Mediacorp Actress Fang Rong Quits Acting To Start New Career In Helping Profession

She has finally fulfilled her dream of decorating her own work desk.

Mediacorp actress Fang Rong, who literally grew up on screen, put her acting career on hold to pursue what she describes as "a career dedicated to helping and supporting others."

The 29-year-old actress announced on Instagram last week that she would be "temporarily" retiring from the entertainment industry to focus on the next chapter of her life. She said the decision had been "years in the making."

"I simply feel that now is the time to pursue my inner calling and serve others," Fang Rong, who remains signed to MediaCorp.

The psychology graduate shared that her choice was shaped by several turning points: "When I was a teenager, life was tough, and my counselor believed in me and my potential. It was a transformative and moving moment in my life—I wanted to have that kind of lasting impact on others. That's why I studied psychology in college."

She added that she had always planned to pursue further studies in psychology or counseling, and that her journey of "self-discovery and self-love" in her twenties reinforced her belief in the healing power of helping each other.

In recent years, she has been dedicated to volunteering, a cause she cherishes that has only made her yearn for this profession even more.

Although Fang Rong has been coy about the details of her new role—out of "respect and honor" for her work—she revealed that she has already begun work and feels "very happy" and "identified" with her role.

She is also happy to have finally realized her lifelong dream of "having a desk to decorate."

If time permits, she would still like to return to acting, but she emphasized that for now, she wants to fully commit to her new path.

Fang Rong began her acting career as a child model at the age of seven.

Over the years, she has appeared in nearly 50 English and Mandarin productions, including The Pupil, Fried Rice Paradise, Last Madame: Sisters of the Night and Recipe of Life. She also starred in films like Money No Enough 2 and Wonder Boy. 

From the age of four, Fang Rong's innate charm and undeniable talent catapulted her to prominence in the worlds of modeling and television commercials. Entering the acting world at the tender age of seven, driven by her passion for acting and unwavering dedication, she embarked on a challenging journey.
